Department of Health and Human Services

Family Planning and Reproductive Health Clearinghouse

Project Goal
The Department of Health and Human Services wanted to bring family planning and reproductive health information to millions of American women and men by supplying clinics with patient education resources. As a result, TMN was contracted to operate a full-service clearinghouse.

Our Services
TMN has operated the clearinghouse since 2006 providing collection development, inventory management, warehousing, order processing and fulfillment, mailing list maintenance, call center operations, publications and website development, database management, outreach, and exhibit staffing.

Information specialists process orders received from hundreds of users every month. The services offered maximize convenience to clearinghouse users, allowing them direct access to services and information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The clearinghouse distributes more than a half million copies of free patient educational materials annually in both English and Spanish as well as professional resources to thousands of federally-funded clinics. Customer feedback routinely provides “Excellent” ratings from 90 percent of respondents on the accuracy and timeliness of orders.

Publications development is a core service requirement of this project. Topics include contraception, abstinence, adoption, sterilization, reproductive health, and sexually transmitted infection and disease. TMN utilizes a creative approach to maximize           cost – effectiveness in utilizing subject expertise, adapting/translating materials into Spanish, and conducting focus group research to reach target audiences with print and electronic materials and information.

Accomplishments
TMN’s innovative solutions have enhanced the collection of available materials, saved the government money, and broadened the scope of services. Several Web-based approaches to clearinghouse operations have been implemented.
Recent accomplishments include online lookup of data submitted by and about federal grantees, the publication of a biannual directory, and a successful mailing that generated a 15 percent return.
